Full preparation

Each piece washed down, fills sanded flush, edges caulked where they’ve pulled from walls, knots sealed, then primed with a wood primer or adhesion primer chosen for the substrate before any topcoat goes on.

Knot sealing for resin-bleed prevention

Live knots in pine and softwood sealed with shellac-based knotting before primer so resin can’t bleed through and stain the topcoat months later — small detail, big difference on light-coloured trim.

Choice of finish — eggshell, satinwood or gloss

Water-based eggshell for a clean modern matt-leaning look, satinwood for a slightly higher sheen with more wipe-resistance, traditional oil-based gloss where heritage character or a deeper finish matters — sample showings on request.

Doors — on-frame, off-the-frame or sprayed

Standard doors prepped and finished in place where it makes sense; heavier doors and panelled units removed for better access; doors and drawer fronts taken off-site for spray finishing where a factory-grade result matters.

Skirtings, architraves and dado mouldings

Cut in by hand to a sharp line against the wall finish, with mouldings worked carefully so paint doesn’t pool in the profiles. Existing damaged sections flagged at survey if they need replacement before painting.

Staircases and spindles

Treads, risers, handrails, newel posts and every spindle prepped and finished — labour-intensive work that takes time but lifts the whole hall. Stair use coordinated so the staircase stays passable at the start and end of each working day.

Window frames — interior and exterior trim

Internal sashes and frames primed and finished in the same family of products as the rest of the trim; exterior sash and casement frames handled with microporous systems so the wood can still breathe under the topcoat.

Snag-free handover

Final walk-round at the end of the job to spot any drips, missed knots, brush marks or thin coverage, with genuine snags fixed there and then before the kit leaves.
